In 2012 Peace Mix called for all street poets, songwriters, vocal divas and virtuosos to come together and help us spread a message of harmony using the most powerful universal language – music!

Over summer the Peace Mix Mic Relay tour journeyed across the entire UK to uncover the best Big Lottery Fund (BIG) and other publicly funded music studios available to young people – positive spaces where budding talent can create and record their own tunes.

At each studio, Peace Mix found the finest new music talent and gave local acts the chance to record their own peace song and show off live to our VIP audience. One winner from each local studio then played our regional Peace Mix Play Off final at Cornwall’s Eden Project on 16 August – bands, soloists and MCs all tussled to win a spot supporting our special guest headliner at the Peace Mix Presents finale, which was held at London’s Roundhouse on August 28.

We also asked you to submit your musical musings on peace! From their bedrooms, schools or professional spaces, young people around the country created lyrics, rhymes, remixes or melodies in a bid to join our groundbreaking, crowd-sourced collaboration track which was released on International Peace Day on 21st September.

Peace Mix was inspired by the story of the New Day Foundation (NDF), a collective led by reformed ex-gang member Sharif Cousins, brought together under the same vision to positively change their troubled community – through music and live events. NDF then hooked up with BIG due to a shared ambition to give young people across the UK a voice and opportunity to discover and use local music spaces.
